LIV RAPIER
JOURNALIST

Hey there!
My name is Liv Rapier, a junior at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) studying journalism with a minor in writing, expected to graduate in May 2026.
I am originally from East Tennessee, born right outside of Knoxville, but I've lived around MTSU since I was 5 years old.
FUN FACT:
Everyone in my immediate family has received a degree from MTSU!
My sister: a bachelor's degree in animation.
My mother: a bachelor's degree in textile & merchandising design.
My father: a bachelor's in psychology and master's in information systems (Business Intelligence & Analytics).
What lead me here
I gained an interest in writing when I won my first essay contest in the third grade, followed by one in fifth grade and another in sixth.
I participated in the schoolwide newscast at my elementary school, introducing me (loosely) to the world of broadcast.
After graduating from Oakland High School (go Patriots!) I started at MTSU in the fall of 2022, initially majoring in early childhood education. After working with children for six months through Murfreesboro City Schools, I decided that teaching was not my path.
I switched my major to journalism in my second semester and never looked back.
Since joining the College of Media and Entertainment, I have had exclusive opportunities to grow my strengths as a journalist, including involvement in the Kenny Lovelace Story, a TAB award-winning project, and working as a producer and assignment manager for the student-run 'Middle Tennessee News'.
How the future looks
With just over a year left as an under-grad, there's not many specifics on my horizon. I try to avoid limiting myself to one form of media (broadcast, print, etc.), though radio sparks my interest.
I minored in writing because I enjoy it. While other journalism students typically minor is mass communication or public relations, I chose one skill to strengthen while I'm in school- writing.
