In February of 2024, Middle Tennessee News picked up a pitch about the late Jerry Lee Lewis's fiddle player, Kenny Lovelace.
A team of students headed to Nashville to gather everything they could possibly find about Jerry and his players. A whole day in the city was dedicated to this project. The students toured the Ryman auditorium, Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Musicians Hall of Fame. From MTSU, the crew utilized the extensive archives and knowledge available through the Center for Popular Music at MTSU.

Six months later, these students were invited back to Nashville to attend the Tennessee Association of Broadcaster's banquet where their story was nominated for two awards, ultimately winning both, including "Best use of Social and Digital Media."
Supervising this project was MTSU instructor, Dan Eschenfelder. With the help of the MTSU School of Journalism and Strategic Media, this group of students can stand proudly as award-winning videographers, producers, and editors before their careers even start.
