From newspapers to Instagram articles, from radio to podcasts, news sources have started to shift in the past 15 years or so.
In 2010 an estimated 23% of Americans had ever listened to a podcast. By 2024, that number had risen to 67%.
Statistically, men are more avid podcast listeners than women. In a 2024 figure, 48% of men had listened to a podcast in the last month, and only 45% of women.
With podcasts growing popularity, there are more options in listening than ever. As of 2025, there are about 4.42 million different podcasts worldwide ranging in topics from comedy to science fiction to news.
Spotify keeps a current chart of podcasts ranked according to popularity.

Author's Choice
As an avid daily news junkie, I try to intake a healthy diet of news without driving myself insane with new (most times depressing) information.
As part of Gen Z, I'm not the biggest fam of long-form media, so my news diet usually consists of shows 20 minutes in length or less- perfect for a daily commute.
Here are my picks:
The Headlines by The New York Times
Today, Explained by Vox
What a Day by Crooked Media
NPR News Now by NPR
