Finals season is upon us, and everyone is in need of study spots.
Some students prefer to study in their own rooms, some like busy hallways or some may just sit outside. Whatever works best for you will absolutely do!
When it comes to a cozy vibe, nothing beats the classic coffee shop, an original work-from-wherever go-to.
As far as locations go, Murfreesboro has tons of options, some just walking distance to MTSU, and even some on campus.
For easy navigation, check out this map I made!
Within walking distance

Located on Middle Tennessee Boulevard, this local coffee spot is less than a mile off campus, walking distance from many dorms. This place is newer, founded in 2020 originally as a food truck. The Murfreesboro location is the first of two physical stores, another located in the heart of Nashville.
Dapper Owl Coffee Pub & Bakery
In July of 2023, the Dapper Owl celebrated its grand opening. Located on East Main Street, this cozy coffee joint doubles as a craft beer pub. The mission of the place was to have somewhere people could go in the morning for their favorite coffee, and a place to finish their day as an English pub. The Dapper Owl is locally owned and just a short walk or bike ride east of campus.
A short drive away
In the heart of Murfreesboro, Brass Horn is a staple of the city. This coffee shop serves freshly roasted coffee as well as breakfast items. Since 2018, this has been the only location of Brass Horn, owned and operated locally. Just a five-minute drive away, this place is always packed with students, tourists or anyone working remotely.
Recently renamed from Joe & Dough, this breakfast place is a quiet, sunny spot perfect for extended study days. This place sells everything from coffee to breakfast bowls and bagels. They even have a drive-thru, but the indoor seating options are plentiful. Located on East Northfield, this place is about a seven-minute drive from campus.
With a view of historic downtown Murfreesboro, Joanie's is another fan favorite, just 2.5 miles off campus. Joanie's opened as the Red Bicycle Murfreesboro back in 2019 on the other side of town. Since then, the Red Bicycle was renamed to honor the owner's mother, Joan, who passed away while the second location was being built. Joanie's is known for their coffee, crepes and breakfast.
